Half a Century of Community Development

Every firm has a history, marked by the contribution of extraordinary individuals who look beyond the limits of current standards into a future where the vision of a better life is made real through innovation and commitment.  For TCB, we mark a significant historical date this year as we celebrate 60 years in business.  In 2006, we also marked the unification of three companies into one identity and under the leadership of a new company president.

Established in 1946 in Houston, Texas, TCB initially focused on general civil engineering projects in the Houston metropolitan area.  In 1974, TCB Inc. was formed as the holding company for SURVCON, a professional surveying company, and Turner Collie & Braden Inc., a consulting engineering company with offices throughout Texas and Colorado.  TCB’s engineers and scientists have designed tens of thousands of miles of infrastructure and hundreds of thousands of acres of land development in Texas, Colorado, and the across the southwest.

SURVCON was formed from the mapping, surveying, and construction practices in 1974 and has rapidly become one of the largest and most respected surveying and mapping firms in the nation, with licensed surveyors throughout the United States.

In the mid-1990s, P&D Consultants, a planning and engineering firm with offices on the West Coast, became part of TCB’s organization.  One of the original AECOM founding companies, P&D Consultants is known as a leading expert in resort and community development, environmental documentation, and water resources.

In 2005, TCB’s growth was accelerated by the acquisition of J. F. Thompson Inc., a Houston-based engineering firm, with 100 employees, and the appointment of James F. Thompson, PE, as TCB’s new President.

As we look back and contemplate how far we've come, we acknowledge those who contributed to our success, each having a vision and a goal. This powerhouse of talent has provided tremendous resources that allowed us to complete projects that span the continent.
