EcoSystems Restoration Associates

Communities are placing greater emphasis than ever before on striking a balance that compensates for the loss of native habitats while allowing continued economic growth that maintains a healthy society.  To meet this concern, EcoSystems Restoration Associates, a division of TCB, provides ecological restoration and management services that enhance and create functional and self-sustainable habitats — including environments for endangered or threatened species — emulating natural processes and returning the land to its historical trajectory.

Our planning services include the creation of conceptual mitigation plans and other long-term management strategies, remaining acutely aware that careful planning, based on site-specific conditions, is essential to the success of any restoration plan.  We specialize in the design of native plant communities and complex irrigation systems, using advanced GIS/CAD mapping techniques and analytical software to perform large-scale vegetation surveys.

We also know that implementing native habitat plans determines the success or failure of a restoration project.  Under the direct supervision of project restoration ecologists, our experienced field supervisors and field crews engage in site preparation, the installation of plant material, maintenance, temporary irrigation, weed abatement and, in some cases, contract plant growing — especially for larger projects where this activity is feasible.

Restoration monitoring is a key component that creates adaptive and pro-active management opportunities for complex projects. As such, our ecologists carry out periodic on-site visits to projects, conducting botanical and wildlife surveys that direct the planting, maintenance, and remedial actions that are unique to each situation. We strongly believe that wildlife monitoring thru a rigorous sampling protocol is essential in evaluating the success of restoration projects.  Therefore, our wildlife biologists working together with restoration ecologists design and implement survey methodologies to assess the response of wildlife to restoration efforts.  This information is then used to guide effective management decisions to improve functions and values of habitats being restored.

Integrated pest management programs form the basis of maintenance activities during the years following the installation of a restored habitat.  We use life history information and extensive monitoring to understand botanical pests and their potential for causing ecological damage that could jeopardize restoration efforts.
