Houston, Texas
Originally designed in the 1960s, rapid growth along the IH 10 corridor has necessitated a complete reconstruction to accommodate the traffic growth and to address modern safety design standards. This plan will completely remove the existing freeway and replace it with a new 18-lane facility. IH 10 Section 3 is part of TxDOT’s IH 10 Reconstruction plan extending from Loop 610 to the City of Katy.
Section 3 is approximately 2.5 miles long and includes grade separations at four major cross streets. The also project includes traffic signals and warrant analysis at each of these intersections. It also includes temporary signalization at each of these locations in each phase of construction. The project will consist of four phases of construction with multiple steps in each phase, especially at major intersections. The project includes water and sanitary sewer design for the City of Houston and coordination with Spring Valley, Hunters Creek, Hilshire, and Hedwig Villages. It also includes two major creek crossings at Spring Branch and Briar Branch of Buffalo Bayou. Harris County Toll Road Authority is reviewing the project for possible expansion.
The project is a joint venture of the Federal Highway Administration, the Texas Department of Transportation and the Harris County Toll Road Authority. |
