Nevada
Because Southern Nevada is experiencing its worst recorded drought, The Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) has implemented several programs to help the community use less water without negatively impacting residents’ quality of life. These long-term programs promote sustainable resource use by encouraging high-efficiency appliances, plumbing fixtures and landscape designs in new residential construction and replacing existing landscape with drought tolerant materials through an installation rebate program. The programs are critical because local residents - whose numbers are increasing dramatically as the local real estate market thrives - use nearly two-thirds of the area’s water, with nearly three-fourths of that water used for outdoor landscaping. SNWA is helping create a sustainable community with programs that offer homebuilders a way to create and market an efficient home, and homebuyers the assurance that they are purchasing a home that is truly water smart. Through the use of its Water Smart Program Inspectors, TCB is partnering with SNWA to assist the homeowner through the rebate process while also working with developers to verify that the home and/or landscape installations were made. |
