Built in the 1920s, the Lower Colorado River Authority’s (LCRA) existing Lake Plant Pump Station had experienced significant foundation settling in recent years causing serious concerns about the integrity of the facility. LCRA hired TCB to evaluate the existing pump station, make recommendations to improve its stability, and develop alternatives for expanding the facility. TCB’s evaluation quickly concluded that constructing a new pump station would be a more economical and achievable solution than repairing and upgrading the existing facility.
TCB evaluated concepts that could be constructed within the LCRA’s budget and completed preliminary engineering, final design, and construction of a new pumping facility that would be in service in less than 12 months, so as not to impact the next irrigation cycle. By implementing an innovative design to use vertical pumps mounted inside fabricated pump cans and using in-house LCRA staff to work with the general contractor, the LCRA was able to meet the deadline and complete the project under budget.
