TCB provided consulting services on system automation and control, for the Sardar Sarovar Project, the largest irrigation project in the world, situated in the State of Gujarat, India. The system is supplied from a concrete gravity dam on the lower course of the Narmada River. The canal system irrigates 4.4 million acres out of a gross command area of 6 million acres. In addition, the project supplies municipal and industrial water to the neighboring state of Rajasthan for agricultural purposes.
The remote monitoring and control system for the Sardar Sarovar conveyance project includes:
1,370 miles of canals with flow rates from 38,850 cfs to 300 cfs
1,100 measurement and control points distributed among Remote Terminal Units (RTU's) extending over an area of more than 19,305 square miles
One main control center and 15 secondary control centers
Automatic canal control using constant volume concept
Redundant communications systems using fiber optic cable links and back-up radio
Irrigation management control for entire project |
